Every month I like to look back and think of ten things that made me happy, brought me joy or that I’m grateful for. February was my birthday month and usually I do something lovely on the day and go to a spa, however this year it had to be spent in lockdown. Still, I made the most of it and had a great day! Read on to find out what made me happy in February.
It was my birthday!
February is my birthday month and I always make sure my actual birthday lasts days (or even weeks. Heck, who am I kidding… the whole month!). Last year I was lucky in that I could actually have a party with my friends but this year was different as my birthday took place in lockdown. Regardless, I made the most of it – starting with giving myself the day off work (the perks of being your own boss). I met up with my friend Deana and Daniel the Spaniel for a socially distanced walk on Hampstead Heath – which still had some snow. We also walked around Hampstead and I popped in to a bakery to get some birthday cake. I then spent the rest of the day watching Book Smart (such a great film) and then enjoying some Prosecco and Nandos with my husband who came home early from work.
Birthday flowers
My husband always buys me flowers for my birthday and these were so lovely! They also lasted ages – just over two weeks. And once the lilies opened, the smell was just gorgeous.
A new tropical plant
As well as flowers, my lovely friend Jen from She Gets Around bought me a fabulous bromelia plant in a lovely holder. It looks like a little pineapple – so cute!
A yummy meal box from Drake and Morgan
As we couldn’t go out for a meal for my birthday, we brought the restaurant meal to us! My birthday is close to Valentine’s Day so the only options we had were Valentine’s meal kits. We’ve had both Hame by Adam Handling (a few times) and Made in Oldstead so I was keen to try something different. We opted for Drake and Morgan as the menu was great AND it came with a bottle of Laurent-Perrier Cuveé Rosé Champagne!
Spring-like weather
We had some absolutely lovely weather in February! There were a few days where it felt like it was spring. Gorgeous blue skies, sunshine and warmth – it definitely lifted my mood and spirits.
New bedding
Is there anything better than new bedding? I spotted a Facebook ad of some gorgeous bedding from La Redoute and just couldn’t resist! I adore the colour and design. I wished I’d ordered the size down though as it’s quite large and hangs quite a bit over the sides… also, don’t look too closely at the creases! I cannot be bothered to iron bedding.
Boris’s roadmap
It was the moment we’d all been waiting for! After months of lockdown, Boris finally announced a roadmap for opening up the UK. Whilst there are a number of stages, and it would still be over a month until we actually came out of lockdown, it definitely made me so happy to finally have some clarity! Just having dates gives you something to hope for and even make plans for. Roll on the 12th April when we’ll be able to shop, travel around the UK, go the gym, get our hair cut and eat and drink outside – with a friend! Woooooo!
A new art print
I couldn’t resist this gorgeous print of Positano to brighten up our bedroom. We adore the Amalfi Coast and have been many times over the years. Positano is breathtakingly beautiful and I think this print really does it justice! Check out Holly Anne Blake’s Etsy shop for gorgeous travel prints.
Jude’s 50th birthday
My lovely – and incredible – friend Jude, who I wrote about a few years ago for International Women’s Day, turned 50. Her family organised a Zoom ‘This is your life’ party for her and I was honored to be invited. It was wonderful to hear stories of Jude from her school and university friends, her family and work colleagues over the years. You could just feel the love for Jude, which made me so happy!
A lovely walk in Bermondsey
Towards the end of the month I had the Friday off so took a long walk to Bermondsey to meet up for a socially distanced walk with my friend Fede and her adorable dog Amber. Bermondsey is one of my favourite places in London and it made me so happy to see it again after so many months. I can’t wait until restaurants open as Bermondsey has some great ones! It also has lots of independent shops, cafes and restaurants as well as the Fashion and Textile Museum and art gallery The White Cube.
So that’s what brought me happiness and joy in February! How did your month go? Let me know in the comments.
