On Wednesday night I attended the launch of Roof East’s summer activities. Situated on top of one of Stratford’s multi-storey car parks, Roof East offers fabulous views over London’s skyline. The weather had been miserable all week but the rain decided to hold off and even the sun came out for the launch!
Unfortunately my ‘plus one’ wasn’t feeling well so I braved going alone. So when I arrived on my lonesome, I did what every girl would do and hit the bar first! For the launch, drinks were on the house from Spirited Mixers so I opted for an Aperol Spritz.
Whilst I was sipping on my Aperol Spritz I received a tweet from the lovely Kassie from Style Devoured who was also there with her friend Alex so I had some company. So off to the Spirited Mixers bar it was for round two! This time I opted for prosecco whilst Kassie and Alex were more adventurous and had the Elderflower cocktail.
The atmosphere at Roof East was great. Really laidback but also a festival vibe with a guy playing guitar (he was really good!) and street food and drink stalls. There’s loads of deck chairs and tables and benches for you to sit and just enjoy the atmosphere and the view.
If you’re hungry, there’s lots to choose from as the street food stalls included RockaDollar Dogs, Dalston’s finest Mussel Men, Korean table-top BBQ Bo Saan Boy and a stall that sold delicious strawberries and cream. The food stalls will rotate too so that if you come a few times over summer, there will be something different.
Kassie and Alex opted for burgers whilst I had some nachos, all courtesy of RockaDollar. It was actually my wedding anniversary that same night and I was heading off to L’Anima for dinner later so I couldn’t over-indulge, unfortunately!
And if the food, cocktails and music’s not enough there’s also Birdies Crazy Golf if you want to test your golfing skills and a cinema, which starts at 9pm. I would have loved to have been able to play a round at Birdies but I had to rush off for our anniversary meal. On my way out I watched some people playing and it looked like loads of fun! I grew up playing crazy golf in South Africa (or putt-putt, as we call it) and I haven’t played for years so I definitely need to round up some friends and come back.
If you’re looking for something fun and a bit different this summer, definitely head over to Roof East. The variety of food stalls was great and what better place to sip a cocktail or sink a cold beer than on a London rooftop when the sun is out? Sink a few holes at Birdies and then head over to the cinema later. It’s the perfect evening, really!
