Mumbai luxury at the Four Seasons

We did a fair amount of research when looking at hotels in Mumbai and the Four Seasons stood out for its style, elegance and value for money. I read a few reviews and every one of them was really positive and many said how great the location was so we arrived with high expectations.

I’m going to be completely honest in that, as we pulled up in the hotel car, my expectations were dashed as I wasn’t that keen on the area. For some reason I thought the hotel was closer to the sea, but it wasn’t – it’s actually in Worli, which is the business district of Mumbai. 

Thankfully my disappointment dissipated when we entered the hotel – it’s really gorgeous and the display of fresh flowers by the check-in desk was just stunning. 

We’d booked one of the cheaper rooms but were soon persuaded to upgrade to a suite, which was situated high up on the 31st floor, where we had a much better view than our previous room which was on a much lower floor. As part of the offer, it included a massage every day at the spa as well as INR 3,000 credit towards food and drink. What’s not to love about that?

The room was huge! The floor to ceiling windows let in lots of natural light and the view in the evening of the lights was gorgeous.

The bathroom was really large with a shower, separate toilet area, two sinks and we loved the large bath right by the window. 

The bedroom was situated in-between the living room and bathroom and had a walk-in wardrobe. I loved how there were fresh flowers in our room – I love little touches like this.

Speaking of little touches… when we checked-in we were told that it was Diwali a few days after we were going to check out. We were asked if we’d ever had Indian sweets and I said that I had but my husband hadn’t so they said they’d send some Gulab Jamun up to our room. How lovely was that? It was delicious too.

The hotel has an outside pool where you can also order lunch. There is a lot of construction going on right by the hotel – two of the buildings are in fact going to be Four Seasons residences. Luckily it wasn’t noisy but it wasn’t particularly pretty either! 

The spa at the Four Seasons was fantastic! I went for a massage on our second night and then my husband and I had a couples massage on another night. The spa was so relaxing and tranquil and the therapists were wonderful. The Jacuzzi was fabulous too. 

The hotel has two restaurants – Cafe Prato, where breakfast is also served, and San:Qi, which is a Pan Asian restaurant.

The breakfast comprised of buffet options, such as fruit, yogurt, cereal etc and a menu of hot items made to order. The English breakfast was great and the French toast was very good too. 

We ate at San:Qi twice as the food was so delicious. We also went twice to their bar for a drink before heading out. I had absolutely no idea that India produced sparkling wine, called Chandon, and I can honestly say it was fabulous. 

San:Qi has four cuisines on offer – Indian, Thai, Chinese and Japanese and the kitchens are open so you can see the chefs at work. The restaurant is split over two floors with two food stations on each. You can order anything you like off the menu – so mix up cuisines if you wish. We really loved the food! 

The hotel also has a rooftop bar, however, due to some sort of licensing issues they weren’t able to serve alcohol. We went up just to have a look but didn’t have a drink. Hopefully they will sort that out soon as the views were amazing!

Although we felt the location wasn’t quite right for us, as tourists, we loved our stay at the Four Seasons Mumbai. It’s a beautiful, luxurious hotel with gorgeous decor and fabulous amenities. The staff were friendly and helpful too. We really enjoyed our stay.
