Ten happy things – Jan 20

view from Brooklyn Bridge

Every month I look back and reflect on the month that’s past and choose ten things that made me happy and that I’m thankful for. Here are my ten happy things for January.

Exploring New York

We started the new year in New York, which is hands down one of my favourite cities in the world. I guess I love it because it reminds me of London but in a different way. Like London, we could visit 100 times and still discover new things.

This trip, which was our 5th, was an adventure because we did loads of new things we’d never done before. And there were also things that weren’t there the last time we visited, like The Vessel. If you’re visiting this year then check out my post on 28 awesome things to do in New York.

Cirque de Soleil

For Christmas, my husband bought me tickets to Luzia, the new show by Cirque de Soleil. We went a couple of weeks ago and loved it! This is our third Cirque de Soleil show and we never tire of them. What those artists can do with their bodies is just phenomenal.

Also it’s such a treat to go to the Royal Albert Hall. It’s just such a beautiful venue and perfect for their shows. After the show we went to Thai Square for dinner. It was a wonderful evening!

Lunch at Bob’s Lobster

Ever since my first visit to Bob’s Lobster with Mitzie, my friend Jenny has been going on and on about having lunch there! So finally, we did – on the last day of January!

Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we ordered way too much food! It was all so good though. My highlights were the delicious Kale Hushpuppies (addictive), the fried oysters and the lobster and crab roll. Jenny and I rolled out of there…

We even got to meet Bob himself! Although his name is actually Rob…

A fun night at Magic that goes Wrong

We love Mischief Theatre and have seen both The Play that goes Wrong and A Comedy About a Bank Robbery. So when I saw their latest play – Magic that goes Wrong – advertised, I knew I had to snap up tickets! I bought them as a Christmas gift for my husband and we went on January 31st (also know as the day we left the EU but let’s NOT TALK ABOUT THAT).

The show was absolutely brilliant and hilarious! At one point I was actually crying with laughter. I highly recommend it – especially if you could do with a good laugh.

Hit all my goals

For 2020 I set myself just 4 goals – read one book a month, eat more vegetarian and plant based food, keep up my running and do things that scare me. I’ve hit all my goals! Ok, well not the ‘do things that scare me’ but only because nothing has presented itself (yet).

Ran my fastest time

I run at least two times a week and in the last week of January I smashed my best time not once but twice! For the first time ever I ran an average pace of less than 6 minutes a kilometre! I know that’s not exactly impressive but it is for me. Think the cold had something to do with it though… the first time it happened it was only 3 degrees so I was probably running fast just to get it over with!

Read a great book

My best friend gave me Educated by Tara Westover for Christmas and oh boy, what a book! It’s a memoir of Tara’s life growing up as a Mormon in Idaho and how she went from being barely home schooled to winning a scholarship at Cambridge. It was absolutely fascinating.

Discovered a new food market

I can’t remember where I first saw Market Hall West End… think it might have been on Instagram (likely….) but I was delighted because it’s around the corner from my co-working space! So I took myself off for lunch one day and had the Dan Dan Noodles from Baozilnn, which were delicious (and spicy).

They have a whole bunch of food stalls as well as a rooftop! There’s even a vegan food stall for those of you who are vegan.

Babbo is back!

We first discovered Babbo years ago after it was featured on an episode of Masterchef and we really liked it. Then it closed…. but now it’s back! Apparently it’s been back for 3 years so how we didn’t know it had reopened, I don’t know…

It looks very different than it did before. They have like a street art theme going on, which I don’t think works that well. However, the food is great! And that’s what really matters.

A good old clearout

I cleared all the junk out of the loft and took it off to our local recycling centre and I can’t tell you how happy it made me! Sad but true…

So those are my ten happy things for January! How did your month go?
