Exploring new places in London

Wapping beer garden in London

I’ve lived in London eleven years and I’m still surprised when I discover new places. As the weather’s really nice this weekend, we decided to go to Brighton on Saturday. Until I remembered I had a hair appointment…

So where could we go in London that was somewhere new, near water that had restaurants with outdoor seating? And then I remembered, St Katherine’s Dock near the Tower of London.

I’ve only been to St Katherine’s Dock once for an event and didn’t see that much of it but I remembered there were a few places to eat. So, I Googled it and discovered there are loads of places to eat!

We settled on The River Lounge, which is an Italian restaurant with a large balcony – perfect for eating al fresco on such a lovely day. The food was absolutely delicious. I had octopus with a watermelon gazpacho and crispy lotus root and my husband had burrata with tomatoes and an avocado cream to start.

Starters from The RiversideFor our mains, I had crab tortelli squid ink pasta which was absolutely delicious! My husband had  spaghetti alla chitarra with crispy cuttlefish and a pea cream.

Mains from The River LoungeThe setting, service and food was excellent – we will definitely be back!

After lunch, we went for a lovely stroll around St Katherine’s Dock all the way to Wapping. It’s so idyllic – you can’t quite believe you are in central London.

There are some beautiful viewing points along the way, which all seemed to be tourist-free so this must be a well kept secret! (until now…)
