A weekend in Brighton

What do you buy your husband for his birthday when he has everything and doesn’t want anything? A weekend away, that’s what. It’s sort of become a bit of a tradition now to take him for a weekend away for his birthday present. It’s great because I get to enjoy it too! This year I chose Brighton as it’s close to London (one hour by train), it’s got a lovely seafront (although we went in October) and we hadn’t been to Brighton together since 2007. We stayed at the luxurious Grand Hotel, right on the seafront. It was built in 1864…

How to start your own business

Ever dreamt of owning your own business? Meet Kim and Lisa, the inspirational women behind fashion and jewellery business Love Gems in Durban, South Africa, who have done just that. I went to high school with Kim and was immediately drawn to her warm personality and infectious laugh. We soon become firm friends and I would often spend weekends at Kim’s house, which is how I got to know her younger sister Lisa. I have so many happy memories of spending time with them both (and some hilarious stories, I might add…) and even though I now live on the…

Dinner at Goodman in Mayfair

Every Friday night my husband and I go out for dinner. Some may call it ‘date night’ but I prefer to call it ‘the one night I don’t have to cook night’. What setting yourself a challenge can do for mindfulness

In August I set myself a challenge and signed up to take part in Aspire’s Channel Swim Challenge – 22 miles in 12 weeks. I’m a pretty good swimmer – I was on the swimming and water polo team throughout school so I wasn’t worried about the swimming aspect. What I really wanted was a mental challenge and something to focus my energy on. Let’s face it… life can become mundane. You get into a routine and week days can just become one big blur. If, like me, you spend most hours online it’s important to take a break. So…

Exploring London’s street art scene

A few weeks ago, after a lovely lunch we wandered around Shoreditch and I was enthralled by the street art. I spotted a tour while admiring some art and decided to book myself on one to learn more about the culture of street art and about the artists themselves. I booked my tour with Street Art London Tours and made my way to Old Street this morning where the tour, led by Emiliano, was starting from. Emiliano started by explaining the difference between street art and graffiti. Modern graffiti has its roots in hip hop culture and often the graffiti is letters…
