Sydney’s Hidden Gems

I used to work with the lovely Lucy a couple of years ago in leafy Chiswick and Lucy has since moved to Sydney. Jealous of her beautiful beach photos posted on her Facebook page, I asked her to share the little-known gems that Sydney offers.  Since moving to Sydney a little over six months ago, I’ve made little secret of how much I’ve fallen in love with this new city of mine; with its endless coastal walks, beautiful balmy temperatures and sunset-spots a-plenty. And while Bondi and its world-famous beach is where I call home, there’s another pocket of the…

Whisky cocktails and BBQ at The Grey Horse

When I told my friend Heidi that I was taking her for dinner at The Grey Horse in Kingston she raised an eyebrow. “The Grey Horse? That used to be a music venue and was a bit of a dive. A long weekend in Florence – Day two

As mentioned in my post on Day one in Florence, we were going to climb up the tower of the Duomo group on Saturday morning as we hadn’t done it yet and our tickets were valid for 24 hours. The trip was a birthday present from my husband. It’s beginning to become a bit of a tradition as last year he took me to Berlin. That night we went off to dinner at Buca Lapi (buca literally means ‘hole’ and it refers to basement restaurants). For once we were quite organised in terms of booking restaurants in advance. Even though there are thousands of places to eat, we…

Florence has my heart

I’ve often heard people say that they were ‘blown away’ by a city or country or that they fell utterly in love with somewhere and I’d never quite understood it because I’d never experienced it myself. Until now. I’m lucky to have travelled quite a bit and been to many beautiful places and I find it hard to fall ‘in love’ with somewhere. I can’t find the words to explain it eloquently but of course I can appreciate the beauty and culture of a place but I’m not necessarily mesmerised or in awe. But that changed last night. We landed…
